Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership

The School’s Council on Diversity and Gender Equity with representatives from each of the academic units, serves, in concert with members of Science Council, are responsible for broad oversight of diversity efforts, including the creation of programs, monitoring progress, and suggesting new initiatives to the Dean and their colleagues within the School.  In addition, Council on Diversity and Gender Equity representatives serve as a resource to their colleagues throughout the School who would like to learn more about current diversity activities.  The Council on Diversity and Gender Equity members meet annually with the Science Council to discuss current activities, challenges, and review proposed changes and initiatives.

In addition to the Council on Diversity and Gender Equity members and Science Council, each academic department has at least two Faculty Search Oversight Committee Representatives who are responsible for providing advice, guidance, and oversight of the faculty search process.  Similarly, a member of each academic department, typically, a faculty member, is responsible for playing a similar role in the graduate admissions process.  (See Table 1 below for a list of current representatives serving in these roles.)

Science Graduate Student Council

Goal: The SGSC will provide a forum to exchange ideas among the graduate student bodies across the School, and it will discuss and advise me on matters of concern to your community.

Structure: Each of the six Science departments will have two or three representatives on the SGSC.  The SGSC will meet two times per semester with the Dean and possibly separately other times as desired.
