The MIT/WHOI Joint Program is considered on of the world's most prestigious graduate degree programs in marine science, bringing together the resources of two great institutions:  the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.  The more than 800 alumni include many of the world's scientific leaders in oceanography.  The program is organized within five areas, each administered by scientists from both MIT and WHOI :  Applied Ocean Science and Engineering, Biological Oceanography, Chemical Oceanography, Marine Geology and Geophysics, and Physical Oceanography.  However, student research projects extend beyond ocean science into such fields as earth science, hydrology, glaciology, marine conservation, and environmental chemistry, to name a few.
