Bates Research & Engineering Center

Bates Research & Engineering Center

Bates’s primary mission as a research and engineering center is to provide preconceptual design and development work for large detector and spectrometer systems for faculty within MIT’s Laboratory for Nuclear Science.  The personnel and equipment at Bates are ideally suited for a range of services from preconceptual design and development work to the construction of large detector and spectrometer systems. In addition, Bates provides the site and technical support for novel applications of small accelerators, in collaboration with MIT faculty and outside companies. The staff includes experienced accelerator and polarized source physicists.
